Meet the depositor

Rachel Gilroy

Name:

Rachel Gilroy

Job/Organisation:

Research Scientist at the Quadram Institute, Microbes in the Food Chain

What has been deposited and why?

A collection of bacterial strains recovered from the chicken gut. These strains all represent entirely novel species or species previously unassigned to any well-formed formed Latin binomial. We hope this provides a stable, clear nomenclature for novel species from the chicken gut.

What current projects are you working on/future work?

  •  Optimising long-read sequencing of the chicken gut microbiome for discovery of taxonomic diversity
  • Perform functional analysis of carbohydrate utilisation by chicken microbiome using an in-vitro gut model and long-read metagenomics
  • Develop a publicly available chicken gut microbiome database
