ECACC is a dynamic cell culture collection that has an active programme to acquire new cell lines. The collection currently holds cell lines representing 45 different species, 50 tissue types, 300 Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) types and 450 monoclonal antibodies. ECACC's collections include large genetic cohort collections such as the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) collection, chromosome abnormality and human random control cell lines, as well as over 1500 human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
Twenty new cell lines are now available to researchers which include numerous cancer cell lines relating to colorectal, breast and gastric cancers, treatment resistant cancer cell lines, immortalised mouse embryonic fibroblast cell lines and hybridomas.
It is hoped that the use of these cell lines will further our understanding of signalling pathways, the development of cancer, the role of mutations and the mechanisms involved in treatment resistance, and will ultimately help to support new drug discovery.
ECACC will be adding cell lines to the collections regularly throughout 2019 to increase the range of cell lines suitable for pre-clinical anti-tumour drug testing and oncogene activity testing in rare tumours such as Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP).
