Cell Line Description

293-PERV-PK-CIRCE has been established by infecting the human kidney 293 cell line (ECACC catalogue no. 85120602) with retrovirus produced by the pig kidney cell line PK-15. The endogenous, C-type retrovirus particles produced by PK-15 have been shown to be capable of infection, replication and serial transfer. 293-PERV-PK-CIRCE is useful to examine the host range of the pig retrovirus to assess the risks associated with porcine xenotransplantation. The cell line has tested negative for Hog Cholera virus. Handle under ACDP Category 2 conditions.
