Cell Line Description

A mouse fibroblast cell line which has an integrated mutant Moloney MuLV. The cell line can be used to generate helper-free defective retroviruses. Cells have now lost their contact inhibition. Contact inhibition is the natural process of arresting cell growth when cells come into contact with each other. It is not possible to be sure how the loss of contact inhibition may affect other characteristics of the cell line. This cell line catalogue number continues to be a popular choice. The key consideration is whether the characteristic of contact inhibition is required for the work the cell line is to be used for. For example, it is required when testing the affects of expression of potential oncogenes where the induction of the loss of contact inhibition is being measured, whereas it is of less significance when using the cell line to express recombinant proteins for production and purification.
