Cell Line Name

IMR 32

Cell Line Description

Established from an abdominal mass occurring in a 13 month old Caucasian male. The tumour was diagnosed as a neuroblastoma with two rare areas of orgonoid differentiation. The culture is a mixture of two morphologically distinct cell types, a small neuroblast-like cell and the other a large hyaline fibroblast. IMR 32 is partially resistant to polioviruses type 3 and highly resistant to ECHO-II. It is susceptible to Coxsackie B3.

Culture Conditions

Cell Type

Fibroblast-like/Neuronal

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-5x10,000 cells/cm² using 0.05% trypsin; 5% CO₂; 37°C. The cells have a low plating efficiency and cell attachment can take up to 2-4 days after resuscitation. Cells easily detach. May need to spin down on arrival, resuspend cells in fresh media and re-seed.

Culture Medium

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
